Killing rowland

Rowland's death.

Rowland Smith, played by guest star Nick Robinson, is a minor character in the third season episode "Blue Bell Boy". He is a thief who steals liquor from bootleggers.

Biography[]

Season 3[]

Nate identifies Smith as his wheel man in the robbery of Mickey Doyle's warehouse. Mickey's boss Nucky Thompson orders Manny Horvitz to kill Nate and then Smith. Nate is dispatched on December 31, 1922. Manny is about to leave home to go after Smith on January 1, 1923 when he is himself killed by Richard Harrow. ("Resolution")

Prohibition Agent Stan Sawicki leads Nucky's people to Smith's reported hideout. Sawicki got the address from a contact in the Philadelphia branch. They find the backwoods house filled with crates of liquor; their own and other bootleggers. Nucky leaves Owen Sleater and one of his men to wait for Smith. They ambush him when he returns to the house. They are surprised by how young he is. Owen calls Nucky for further guidance. ("Blue Bell Boy") Nucky drives out to question Smith. While they are at the house it is raided by Philadelphia Prohibition Agents, at least one of whom is said to be working for Waxey Gordon. They kill Owen's man and Nucky's bodyguard when they find them outside, presumably on Gordon's orders to eliminate anyone at the house. Nucky, Owen, and Smith hide in the basement while the agents search the house. They are trapped there for more than a day as the agents wait for Smith. The prohibition agents clear the building of liquor, loading it into their vehicles. The boy claims that he is not quite sixteen and tries to charm Nucky into giving him a job. He also claims that Nucky gave his family a turkey in the winter of 1914. ("Blue Bell Boy")

When the agents eventually leave Nucky, Owen, and Smith emerge from the basement. Nucky offers Smith a cigarette and then shoots him in the back of the head.
